Abstract
806,863. Seats. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. March 21, 1957 [April 24, 1956], No. 9309/57 Class 52(2) A Vehicle seat has an angularly adjustable back rest which may be swung forward about an oblique axis extending from a point intermediate of the side of the seat to the back. As shown a front seat has a divided back rest for driver and two passengers respectively, each part tiltable as described below. The inner side of the driver's back rest 21 is connected at the bottom by a universal ball joint to a support 26 carried by the seat frame. Welded to the outer side is a bracket 33 to which is pivoted an L-shaped arm, welded at the lower end to a sleeve 39 pivoted to the side seat frame member 16. Pivoted at 46 to a downward extension 47 of the outer side frame of the back rest is a second L-shaped arm 44 which is embraced in the collar 39 by a yoke 52. A fixed pin 51 extends across the collar 39 and is engaged by notches 49 on the underside of the arm 44. The yoke is connected by a pin to member 58 in which there is an arcuate slot 71 having as centre of curvature a point on the oblique axis of tilt of the seat. A lever 64 is pivoted to the seat frame 16 at 62 and carries a projection 69 engaging in the arcuate slot 71. On raising the lever the yoke 52 is raised against the action of spring 54 and angular adjustment of the back is possible. The adjustment may be made by power means using a rotating screw inside the collar instead of the pin and notch device. The seat may be slidable on a track 18
