Abstract

806,521. Cable joints; repeater housings; junction boxes. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS (SUBMARINE CABLES), Ltd. Jan. 11, 1957 [Jan. 12, 1956], No. 1159/56. Class 38 (1). A housing for a repeater or cable joint (as shown) comprises a pair of inner and a pair of outer casings 8, 9, respectively, V- shaped reinforcing members 12 each having an apex angle of about 60 degrees being provided on cylindrical walls 10 and the four casing sections being bolted together by bolts 14 passing through flanges 11. Bulkheads having sealing glands 16 for the entry of cable cores, and armour clamps 20 and tubes 21 to restrict bending of the cables, are provided at the outer ends of casings 8, 9 respectively. Pressure compensation is ensured by the provision of flexible diaphragms 19. The joint between the two casings 8 is made with a gasket 17. The housing is preferably made of an aluminium base alloy.
