Abstract

806,520. Electric induction lamps. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. Dec. 19, 1956 [Feb. 16, 19561, No. 38773/56. Class 39(2). In order to obtain uniformity of light distribution from an electric induction lamp comprising a target 6 of refractory material disposed in an aperture in a magnetic field concentrator 1 provided with a slot 3 for the purpose of preventing circulation of current in a complete path around the target, the spacing between. the target and the edge of the aperture is made less in the region of the radial slot than at the opposite closed portion of the circumference. Figs. 1 and 2 show a circular refractory disc 1 provided with a radial slot 3 and an oval central opening 4 formed with an extension 5 diametrically opposite the slot. The target 6, which consists of a cylinder of refractory material such as tantalum carbide, extends forwardly of the plane of the disc 1. Other refractory materials such as niobium carbide or hafnium carbide may be used Interconnected tubes 9 for the circulation of cooling water are attached to a cylindrical portion 10 extending downwardly from the disc 1. A stem 11 of the same material as the target 6 supports the latter in a zirconium tube 12, as described in Specification 806,518. Fig. 4 shows a modification wherein a target 6 in the form of a circular cylinder is set eccentrically in a circular opening 4 in a concentrator disc.
