Abstract

The invention comprises 2,4-dibromoallopregnane - 11b ,17a ,21 - triol - 3,20 - dione 21-acetate and 2,4 - dibromo - normal - pregnanes of the general formula <FORM:0806162/IV (b)/1> wherein X represents = O, <FORM:0806162/IV (b)/2> and R represents hydrogen or an alkanoyl group having not more than 8 carbon atoms. The 21-esters may be prepared by treating the corresponding 21-esters with 2 mols. of bromine in one or two steps. The 2,4-dibromo-21-hydroxy compounds are prepared by hydrolysing the corresponding 21-esters. The 2,4-dibromo-11-keto-pregnones may also be prepared by oxidizing the corresponding 11-hydroxy compounds, e.g. by means of chromic acid. In the examples the following compounds are prepared: 2,4-dibromo-pregnane-17a ,21-diol-3,11,20-trione 21-acetate, 2,4 - dibromo - pregnane - 11b ,17a ,21-triol - 3,20 - dione 21 - acetate and the corresponding allopregnane, and 2,4-dibromo-pregnane - 11a ,17a ,21 - triol - 3,20 - dione 21 acetate.
