Abstract
805,935. Electric lamp filaments. ENGELHARD INDUSTRIES, Inc. Aug. 11, 1955 [Aug. 11, 1954], No. 23200/55. Class 39(2) [Also in Group XL(a)] A lamp, for producing 2980-4400 A and infra-red radiation, comprises an envelope 1, containing a xenon filling and discharge electrodes 2 and 3 bridged by a filament 4 capable of being rendered incandescent to emit infra-red radiation, and an outer envelope 9 containing a filament, coil or bar 10 of tungsten capable of being rendered incandescent and connected to a lead-in wire 5 for the electrode 3 through a rod 14, and to a ourrent supply rod 15. The lead-in wire 6 for the electrode 2 is connected to a current supply rod 13. The filament 10 is further supported by a rod 16 connected to an insulated support 17. The outer envelope 9 can have an internal reflector 11. The xenon filling of the envelope 1, with or without not more than 5 per cent of another rare gas for starting, is at a pressure of at least 0.1 atmosphere at 25‹C., preferably between 0.1 and 5.0 or between 0.1 and 2 atmospheres. The gap between the electrodes 2 and 3 can be less than 1 mm. or can be several mms., e.g. 5 mms. In a modification the envelopes 1 and 9 are tubular and the rods 14 and 16 are secured in the lamp stem.
