Abstract
The constituents of a mixture of solid copper sulphate with a minor proportion of nickel sulphate are separated by contacting the mixture with a solution saturated with respect of both constituents and then raising the temperature of the whole of a point where the difference in solubilities is such that nickel sulphate is preferentially dissolved, and thereafter separating the undissolved copper sulphate from the heated solution. The latter may then be cooled to crystallize the nickel sulphate and recycled to extract, under the same conditions, the nickel sulphate from a fresh sample or from the undissolved copper sulphate. The initial temperature of the solution may be from 15 DEG to 30 DEG C. and the heating may be to 30 DEG to 50 DEG C. The nickel sulphate solution may be subjected to electrolysis to recover nickel.
