805,668. Cooling liquids; heat exchangers. LEWIS, E. C., and ALUMASC, Ltd. Sept. 28, 1956 [Feb. 3, 1956], No. 3395/56. Classes 29 and 64(3) Liquid cooling or heating apparatus comprises concentric shells 1 to 3 defining between shells 1 and 2 a sinuous liquid passage 9 hawing inlet 10 and outlet 11, and between shells 2 and 3 a similar passage 26 for a coolant or heating liquid having inlet and outlet for connection to e.g. a refrigeration system the shells being surrounded by a water jacket 4. The shells 2 and 3 are preferably welded together while the shell 1 is bolted into shell 2 and is of such diameter as to give a small clearance with the sides of shell 2. The interior of jacket 4 is in communication with the interior of shell 1 through holes 16 in the base of shell 2. The jacket and shells are preferably of aluminium alloy.
