A glass bottle 1 has an insert 5 of polyethylene, the insert comprising a cylindrical portion 6 formed at its upper end with a flange 7 that extends outwardly at right angles to the axis of the insert, the outer margin 8 of the flange being flared upwardly and outwardly to present a sharp edge 10 at its junction with the outer wall 9 of the flange which is approximately the same diameter as the external periphery of the neck of the bottle. The insert serves to obviate the tendency for drips to slide down the outer walls. The bottle is threaded at 2 to take a screw cap.
