Abstract

804,701. Variable-speed gearing; clutch actuation. FRANCAISE DE FERODO S.A. Feb. 14, 1956 [Feb. 14, 1955; Dec. 30, 1955], No. 4651/56. Addition to 751,785. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] The two-part gear lever of the parent Specification is modified by providing the associated switch with a contact on each of the two parts and with a centring device including two relatively movable members urged towards a balanced position by resilient means. As shown, a contact 132 connected to a conductor 11 is carried in a gear control member 10 fixed to a socket 12 and the co-operating contact member 137 is resiliently connected to actuating rod 19 by a coil spring 144. The rod 19 is centralized in the sleeve 12 by a spring 27 urging a spherical collar 24 on the rod against an abutment 26. In this position the contacts 132, 137 are spaced apart with the contact 137 engaging the rod 19 at annular abutment faces 140, 141, a convex part 139 of the contact 137 entering a recessed part 142 in the rod 19. Initial movement of the rod 19 before the latter engages an abutment surface 146 on the socket 12 closes the contacts 132, 137 and produces relative movement between the contact 137 and rod 19 with distortion of the springs 27, 144. When a gear change has been made and the rod 19 released the springs 27, 144 restore the contacts to the open position shown in Fig. 2. In a modification the spring 144, instead of being screwed to the parts 19, 137, has its end coils engaging an annular groove in these parts. In another modification the coil spring 144 is omitted and the contact members are centralized by a surrounding rubber bushing. In a further modification the contact 132 is a spherical headed pin which is mounted in the member 10 by a spring-urged spherical collar member.
