Abstract

804,478. Boots &c. WRIGHT & CO., Inc., E. T. May 25, 1956 [June 22. 1955], No. 16232/56. Classes 17(1) and 17(2) In making a moccasin shoe where the upper 2, Fig. 13, forms a complete insole 4, a mound 28 is formed as a metatarsal arch support. The upper 2 mulled to a flaccid condition is drawn over a last L and tacked into a depression therein in the metatarsal area to provide subsequently a fullness, and thereafter the moccasin plug is inserted and the last withdrawn. A midsole 26 is premoulded to form a metatarsal mound on its upper grain surface and a pad 30 attached to a shank stiffener 34 is inserted and secured in the corresponding depression. The shank stiffener 34 is secured at its rear end by rivets 40 and has an anti-squeaking piece of adhesive tape 42 between it and the midrole. A thin leather flap may be secured to the exposed part of the pad 30 and it extends a short distance over the midsole. The midsole unit thus formed is sewn by stitching 44 to the insole and an outsole is attached to its margin by stitching 48 the grain surface of the midsole margin being exposed. Sole levelling pressure is then applied as by a roller 50 to force the mound 28 in the midsole to shape the insole into a metatarsal support. The support may be provided in shoes having a construction other than a moccasin.
