Abstract

804,154. Rotary pumps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 8, 1957 [April 16, 1956], No. 11357/57. Class 110 (2). In a hermetically sealed rotary compressor of the outwardly-sliding abutment type, means are provided for lubricating the shaft bearing 8 and for preventing leakage of high pressure gas thereto. Oil from a reservoir 24 is centrifugally fed through passages 25, 26, 28 to the bearing and is re-circulated by way of a passage 40 and a subsidiary reservoir 32. The abutment 14 is provided with an oil groove 42 which is adapted to register with and receive oil from a passage 43a communicating with the reservoir 32. High pressure gas leaking along the sides of the rotor is bled off through grooves 35, 36 and passages 37, 38, 39 into the main portion of the casing through a vent (not shown) in the upper portion of the shaft 7.
