803,782. Bat and racquet handles. GRAYNICOLLS, Ltd. March 1, 1956 '[March 11, 1955; May 31, 1955], Nos. 7195/55 and 15553/55. Class 132(2) A striking appliance for a game has a handle provided with at least one flat rubbercovered spring-metal lamination embedded in the wood of the handle with its flat face parallel to the striking face of the appliance. A cricket bat handle 1 (Fig. 1) has a spring-metal lamination 2 which is wound with tape and has a rubber lamination 3 on each face. Each end of the lamination is embedded in a wedge of wood 6, 8 serving as an anchor for the lamination. A tennis or similar racquet may have a handle including several metal laminations extending from near the throat of the racquet to a position close to the end of the handle. The invention may be applied to a lacrosse or a hockey stick to strengthen the handle and the head of the stick at its weakest point.
