909,011. Golf-clubs. SANO, N. June 10, 1960 [June 15, 1959; June 19, 1959; Sept. 5, 1959 (2); March 12, 1960 (2)], No. 20445/60. Class 132 (2). Relates to sole formations on golf-club heads designed to minimize ground impact. As shown in Fig. 5, the lower part of a " wood " type head 1 is cut-away at 61, 71 at the toe and heel; similar cut-aways may be embodied in " iron " type heads. As shown in Fig. 8, a combshaped sole plate 3 is secured to the sole of a " wood " type head with the limbs 3a extending towards the rear of the head perpendicularly to the striking face, the sole of the head being cut away at 5 between the limbs and at 6, 7 at the toe and heel. The plate 3 may have only two limbs 3a so that it is U-shaped. As shown in Fig. 10, the under part of an " iron " type head 11 is cut away at 71, 61 at the heel and toe and at one or more areas 51 towards the rear of the head.
