Abstract

744.778. Striking appliances for games. GRAY-NICOLLS, Ltd., and NEWBERY, A. L. June 1, 1954 [April 8, 1953], No. 9527/53. Class 132(2) A cricket bat, hockey stick or baseball bat has its striking surface comprised of a front longitudinal central section 3 of good driving wood, e.g. willow with two outer sections 4 on either side, of stronger wood. The back of the blade 2 is made in two rear sections 5, 6 with a thin strip 7 of willow extending down each side separating them from the sections 4. A willow strip 8 of transverse grain separates the front and rear sections at the bottom of the blade. In the space between the strips 7 is inserted a suitable resilient material 9 such as balsa wood rubber, rubber substitute or plastic. At the top of the blade strips of willow may constitute separating means on either side of the splice if desired. The parts are glued together. Specification 743,187, [Group III], is referred to.
