Abstract

Alkanolamides of a ,g -dihydroxy-b ,b -dimethylbutyric acid are obtained by reacting a ,g -dihydroxy-b ,b -dimethyl butyramide with an ethanolamine. The process is applicable to D-and L-forms as well as to the racemates. The reaction may be effected by gentle heating in ethanol. In examples: (1) D (+) - a ,g -dihydroxy - b ,b - dimethyl - butyramide is reacted with 2-aminopropanol; (2) a ,g -dihydroxy - b ,b - dimethylbutyramide is reacted with 3-amino-propanol; (3) D (+)-a ,g -dihydroxy-b ,b -dimethyl butyramide is reacted with 2-amino ethanol.
