Abstract
803,661. Mineral fibre paper board &c. BRENNAN, J. B. June 2, 1955, No. 15825/55. Class 96. A suspension, e.g. of glass, quartz, or ceramic filaments, e.g. 0.0005 inch diameter and <SP>1</SP>/ 10 to 1 inch long, and which may contain metal particles, e.g. 1 oz. per gallon, of aluminium, titanium, nickel, or iron, 1 to 10 microns in size, is stirred by propellers 4, and formed into a web or strip on a cylinder mould 7, with the aid of a suction box 9. The web may be heated as by infra-red radiation &c. applied at 17, and dried; or heating or cooling rolls may be fitted internally of the cylinder mould 7. The metal particles may be sintered or fused by high-frequency current in a coil 12. Further metal may be sprayed at 16. In a modification, longitudinal reinforcement textile cords or filaments, or woven gauze are united with, or embedded in the web as it is being formed, e.g. on a first cylinder mould, from which the web may pass directly or after being turned over, to a second cylinder mould for deposition of a second ply of filaments &c. In another modification, cords are passed through a porous sleeve containing a suspension of fibres and metal particles, suction being applied to felt the fibres &c. on to the cords, which are dried as by heating the sleeve, and which may be sprayed with metal.
