Abstract
803,523. Tube joints. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. April 23, 1956 [May 20, 1955], No. 14693/55. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXVII] In a method of fitting a thin-walled tube 16 of aluminium bronze in aligned bores 17, 18 in spaced walls 11, 13, the bore 17 is formed with a shoulder 17a facing the bore 18 and the latter has a peripheral channel 18a intermediate the ends thereof, the tube having such dimensions as to be a good fit in the bores. One end of the tube abuts the shoulder 17a, and the other end is expanded to fill the channel 18a, and for a short length extending inwardly from the bore 18 to a size slightly greater than that bore. Prior to insertion in the bores the tube may be shrunk by immersion in liquid air. As shown, the walls define part of the water space 14 in the cylinder head 10 of a Diesel engine.
