Class 44 A separable fastener comprises a male and a female element 14 and 12 each being a unitary moulded body of firm but yielding tenacious and resiliently extensible polymeric material, the male element 14 comprising a post 20 having an enlarged head 16 with a rounded end and overhanging shoulder 18 and, at the base of the post, an integral peripheral flange 24 provided for anchorage of the element to a supporting part 26, the female element 12 being formed in one piece and comprising a circumferentially continuous tube 28 having an exterior peripherally extending flange 38 provided for anchorage to a flexible sheet 40 and having at one end an inwardly extending overhanging flange 30 defining rearwardly an abrupt shoulder 34, the opening within the flange corresponding substantially to the cross-sectional area of the post 20 beneath the head 16, whereby on axial approximation of the parts and their resultant elastic deformation, the head 16 may pass the flange 30 and the abrupt shoulder 34 of the flange underlie the overhanging shoulder 18 of the head effectively to resist axial withdrawal of the head, the thickness of the inwardly extending overhanging flange 30 being substantially less than the length of the portion of the post between the enlarged head and the integral peripheral flange 24 of the stud so that the inner face of the overhanging flange 30 is spaced from the underface of the stud, such that in separating the elements of the fastener, the female element may be tilted about the longitudinal axis of the post and then elastically distorted in shape under radially applied strain to withdraw a portion of the flange radially beyond the head and so permit separation. As shown, the sheet material 40 extends over the open end of the female element 12.
