Abstract

803,218. Spike extractors. PETERS & CO., Ltd., G. D. Dec. 28, 1955 [Aug. 25, 1954], No. 24698/54. Class 61. A rail spike extractor comprises a lever 6 having a heel which provides a rolling fulcrum, a link 16 slung from a pivot 15 in the toe and a swivelling foot 18 on the link having lateral projections 20, 21 to engage the rail spike. The heel 11 comprises a pair of lateral projections on the lower edge of the lever 6, the projections being spaced from the toe of the lever by approximately the distance which separates the spike 4 from the rail 1. The pivot 15 is formed by the cranked end of link 16 and rides in a semi S-shaped slot 14 thus enabling the link to be hung from either the upper or lower end of the slot. The foot 18 has a cup-shaped recess 19 which bears on a part spherical projection 17 provided on the end of the link 16. The lever has secured thereto a wooden handle 7 by screws or rivets 8.
