Abstract

803,050. Lubricating. ROLLS-ROYCE, Ltd. July 20, 1955 [Aug. 6, 1954], No. 23001/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 12 (3). [Also in Group XXVI] The bearings of a gas turbine high and low pressure concentric shafts are lubricated by oil which is supplied to the shaft interior, near the bearings, and which flows radially outwards to the bearings, through ducts, under centrifugal action. The oil is brought by a fixed oil pipe to a point on the centre line of the shaft assembly but spaced from the end of the assembly. Connection between the fixed pipe and shaft assembly is effected by a transfer pipe normally jointed at both the shaft assembly and the fixed pipe. The oil, in moving radially outwards, passes through two concentric bearings associated with the shafts of the low and high pressure blending respectively. Fixed air cooling is simultaneously effected by the air current through the interior of the inner shaft and a separate flow of air over the exterior surface of the outer shaft carrying the high pressure blending disc which is also cooled.
