Abstract

A feed for a hydroforming process comprises a naphtha and a hydroformate fraction boiling above 120 DEG F., and preferably boiling below 500 DEG F. The feed may contain 5 to 50 per cent by volume of hydroformate which may be a recycle from the product. The naphtha in the feed may boil within the range 250-400 DEG F. Standard hydroforming conditions may be used, e.g. 50-1000 p.s.i.g. and 750-1150 DEG F., using a fixed or fluidized catalyst bed process, suitable catalysts being platinum or palladium on alumina or one or more oxides of molybdenum, chromium, tungsten or vanadium on activated alumina, alumina gel or zinc aluminate spinel. The product boiling below 430 DEG F. may have an octane number of 90-107 (research clear).
