802,817. Bearing bushes. DRYSDALE, A. Oct. 29, 1956 [July 29, 1955], No. 22080/55. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXVI] A bearing bush comprises a thin walled cylindrical outer steel housing 11 surrounding annular rubber rings 12 and two rings 13 fitted within the rings 12, which rings 13 are split by saw cuts 14 made at an angle to the axis of the bush so as to make them radially contractable. The rings 13 are provided with wide radially curved keyways 15, the corners of which are undercut or dovetailed. A dovetailed, curved spacing element 16, 17 is provided for insertion into each keyway. A sealing or bearing ring 18 having a wall of uniform thickness, which is gapped by cutting, is provided to fit concentrically within the ring 13. The end faces of the ring 18 on either side of the gap are chamfered so that their edges are sharp and they fit against the edges of the spacing element 16, 17 exactly. The two rings 13 with the two inner sealing rings 18 are assembled within the rubber rings 12 so that their spacers 16, 17 are diametrically opposite to each other. Wear of the inner surface removes material from the edge contacts and permits contraction sufficient to take up the wear. A pressure ring 21 containing a rubber sealing ring 22 is located between the bearing bush and a clamping element 25.
