Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve sealing capacity by cutting an annular groove in the sliding surface of the driven ring slid against the seat ring which divides the sliding surface into the outer peripheral land part and the inner peripheral groove part in which plural fine grooves are made.
CONSTITUTION: The driven ring 10 of the mechanical seal which rotates with the rotating shaft 1 slides against the seat ring 9 through which the rotating shaft 1 is penetrated, and leakage of oil or gas through the gap between the seat ring 9 and the rotating shaft 1 is prevented by the sliding. In this case, the plural fine grooves 16 are bore in the inner peripheral groove 15 in the sliding surface 10a of the driven ring 10, and an annular groove 18 is bore between the inner peripheral groove part 15 and the flat land part 17 in the outer peripheral. Being thus constituted, fluid leaking through the outer peripheral land part 17 is scraped, and at the same time, the abrasion powder, powder dust, etc. are collected in the annular groove 18. Also, the influence of uneven deformation of the inner peripheral groove to the land part 17 can be prevented by the annular groove 18.
