Abstract
802,808. Electric indicating systems. WALKER CROSWELLER & CO., Ltd. May 12, 1955 [Feb. 12, 1954], No. 4151/54. Class 40 (1). Apparatus for remotely indicating the value of a variable by means of a cyclically repeated electric pulse comprises means for driving a pointer in one direction for the duration of the pulses and in the opposite direction in the intervals, the difference between these times being indicative of the value of the variable, and indicated by the pointer. As shown (Figs. 2, 5) the receiver comprises two plates 1, 2, the former carrying an electromagnet 9 fed with the signal pulses, having a spring-loaded armature 10 whose upper extremity is held in the circumferential groove of a disc 16 locked on an axially displaceable shaft 17 extending through the two plates 1, 2. The shaft is surrounded by a square sleeve 23 carrying two friction clutches 26, 27 which are loaded by a spring 28 to drive two wheels 24, 25, each wheel having a projecting peg 29, 30 near the periphery, engageable with levers 32, 34 attached to indicator wheels 21, 22 mounted on bearings on the plates 1, 2, and with stop-bolts 31, 33 mounted on a spacer 4. The shaft 17 is driven continuously by a constant-speed motor 35 via gears 37, 38. Tn the absence of a pulse, armature 10 is released as shown, and the motor 35 'drives indicator wheel 22 via peg 30 and lever 34, and produces rotation of a shaft 43 in one direction, the other peg 29 being stopped by bolt 31 to cause slipping at its clutch 26, 27. When a pulse is received the armature 10 moves the shaft 17 to cause peg 29 to drive indicator-wheel 21 reversing the direction of movement of shaft 43. After the initial setting, the pegs 29, 30 only produce movement of shaft 43 when there is a change in the durations of the pulse and interval.
