Abstract

802,644. Toothed gearing; reversing gearing. SUD-AVIATION, SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES. [formerly SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU SUDOUEST]. June 6,1956[June 10, 1955], No. 17518/56. Classes 80(1) and 80(2). Side bevels 6, 7, Fig. 1, of a planetary bevel train are secured to driven shafts 8, 19 respectively, whilst the carrier 4 of planetary bevels 5 is driven through gearing 2, 3 from a motor 1. The shaft 8 carries a worm wheel 9, (see also Fig. 2), which meshes with a reversible worm 10 on an idle spindle 11. The spindle 11 is provided with a limited amount of play in bearings 12 and has at one end a shoulder 13 engaging a ballthrust bearing 14 and at the other end a plate 16 adapted to engage a friction disc 17 secured to the gear casing. A similar arrangement of wormwheel 20, worm 21 and spindle 22 is provided for the shaft 19, but the ball-thrust bearing 23 and friction device 24, 25 are disposed oppositely to 14 and 16, 17 of spindle 11. Levers 26, 27, 28, 29 are provided, acting on the ends of the spindles 11, 22, whereby braking of the spindles is controlled to drive either of the shafts 8 or 19 irrespective of the direction of drive of the motor 1. Fig. 4 shows a reversing arrangement in which the two driven elements 32, 33 of a spur train are controlled by worm braking devices 37, 39, as before and are both coupled by means of stepped planets 30, 31 to a gear 34 on an output shaft 35. Different speeds of the shaft 35 in opposite directions may be obtained by controlling the worm devices 37, 39 from a single direction of drive of the driving-shaft 40 and carrier 41.
