Class 98(1) In a photographic camera, a unit detachable from the body carries a component of the lens system, a variable aperture diaphragm, a depth-of-focus indicator and a focusing member rotatably mounted on the unit, the focusing member bearing a focusing scale co-operating with a stationary mark on the unit and the depth-of-focus indicator having a pair of movable pointers co-operating with the focusing scale. As shown in Fig. 2, a bayonet ring 14 on the front 10 of the camera engages a ring 16 on the detachable unit. A focusing ring 24 threadably engages a flange 22 fixed to ring 16, and has a rim 26 entering a space 28 between two parts 32, 34 of the unit. A pin 38 on flange 22 engages a slot 36 in the part 32, so that when ring 24 is rotated the unit moves axially without rotation. The part 34 carries a shutter housing 42 of known type, which carries the lens components 64, 66 and also houses an iris diaphragm actuated by a ring 48. Immediately behind the shutter housing is a depth-offocus indicator of the kind described in Specification 785,857, actuated by a ring 90 engaging ring 48 by means of an upturned lug 92, and having a pair of pointers, one of which is shown at 72, cooperating with the focusing scale 74 on ring 24. The shutter speed setting ring 50, mounted on the front of the shutter housing 42, has a skirt 52 which has recesses 54 at its lower edge. One of these recesses is engaged by a catch 56 on a coupling ring 58. A projection 60 of the diaphragm setting ring 48 engages a retaining slot 62 in ring 58, and is made of resilient material so that the ring 58 may be pushed back to disengage it from the shutter speed setting ring 50, and rotated with respect to ring 50. In a modification, a ring rotatably mounted on the front of the camera threadably engages a ring which is free to move axially without rotation, and the unit carrying the shutter, lens diaphragm and depth-of-focus indicator is detachably secured to the second ring. A focusing ring rotatably mounted on the unit has a pin-and-slot connection with the first ring. Further, the detachable unit may have a part fixed to the camera and a displaceable part carrying the lens. The fixed part may carry the shutter mechanism and/or the depth-of-focus indicator, the remaining parts being carried by the movable part.
