Abstract

Sodium perborate trihydrate is obtained by the interaction of aqueous solutions of boric acid or borax, sodium carbonate, hydroxide or peroxide and hydrogen peroxide present in an atomic ratio of boron : sodium : active oxygen of 0.8 to 1.4 : 1 : 1 and in the presence of a saturated solution of preformed sodium perborate trihydrate. The solution is cooled and the perforate separated. The reaction may be in more than one stage and the hydrogen peroxide may be formed in situ.
