Abstract

802,297. Abrasive articles. KLINGSPOR, C. Aug. 27, 1956, No. 26197/56. Class 60. A grinding disc comprises a grinding member formed from a plurality of superimposed rings of abrasive-coated fibrous material mounted around the periphery of a supporting member formed from a plurality of superimposed discs of fibrous material, all the layers being compressed and bonded together by a hardenable synthetic resin. In one embodiment, a disc is formed by superimposing a series of rings 1 (of which only two are shown) formed of paper or other fibrous material impregnated with a hardenable synthetic resin bond and covered with the abrasive, and alternating them with discs 3, 4 of a fibrous material also impregnated with a hardenable synthetic resin, the whole being bonded together under heat and pressure. In a modification the disc is formed of abrasive-coated rings 1 and discs 3, 4 similar to those shown, together with modified abrasivecoated rings having the same internal diameter as the discs 3 ; the disc is then assembled by superimposing a disc 4 and ring 1 alternately with a disc 3 and modified ring. One or both faces of the grinding portion of the disc may be provided with grooves disposed either radially or as concentric circles, and in the latter case the grooves on the two faces may be relatively staggered. Cork may be incorporated in the abrasive-coated fibrous material to increase its porosity.
