802,155. Lubricating. NOBLE & LUND, Ltd., NOBLE, C. S., and WALKER, L. March 1, 1956 [March 26, 1955], No. 8897/55. Class 12 (3). [Also in Groups XXII and XXIII] A lubricating system for the sliding surfaces of the bed and table of a machine tool comprises lubricant supply ducts 21a located in longitudinally-disposed recessed underfaces 17 of the table B, a series of spaced lubricating grooves 19 extending laterally from the supply ducts, and pressure-equalizing ducts 21b connecting the grooves 19 in pairs so that lubricant can pass from one another of a pair. Preferably channels 18 are formed in the table and each is fitted with H-section insertions 21 separated by blanking members 20, the members 21 providing the ducts 21a, 21b with communicating holes 21c, and the blanking members each being formed with a slight clearance 20a below its underface to provide a constricted passage for the oil. Oil is supplied to the channel 18 and grooves 19 by a pump through pipes 8, 6, 4 and 5, the maximum pressure of the oil supply being regulated by a relief valve. For rotary machine tools the longitudinal grooves are circular and the transverse grooves are radial.
