Abstract

The invention comprises piperazine derivatives of the general formula <FORM:0802080/IV (b)/1> in which R1 is a methyl or ethyl group and either R2 or R3 is a methyl group and the other is hydrogen, and acid addition salts thereof. The bases may be prepared by the reaction of the appropriate benzhydryl halide with the piperazine <FORM:0802080/IV (b)/2> the latter being preferably in about 100 per cent excess. In an example o-methylbenzhydryl chloride is reacted with N-methylpiperazine to form N - (o - methylbenzhydryl) - N1 - methyl piperazine, which is treated with ethanolic hydrogen chloride to form the di-hydrochloride. Similarly are prepared N - (m - methylbenzhydryl) - N1 - methylpiperazine, N - (m - methyl benzhydryl)- and N-(o-methylbenzhydryl)-N1-ethyl piperazines and their dihydrochlorides.
