Abstract
802,043. Dynamo - electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 26, 1956 [Oct. 10, 1955], No. 28810/55. Class 35. Converting electric energy into motion of fluids by the action of magnetic fields.-A direct-current interaction pump comprises heavy conductors 3, 4, 5, 6 above and below the duct 2, these conductors being apertured to receive magnetic inserts 10 between conducting portions 7, 8, 9, the vertical flux path across the duct being completed by a core 1. As shown in Fig. 4, current is supplied to portions 16, 161 in parallel, passing through conductors 9 above and below the duct to terminal T2 connected to the duct, across the duct to terminal T1 and thence through central conductors 8 above and below the duct. Connector portions 12 carry the current to conductors 7 and thence to parallel connected negative terjinals 11, 11<SP>1</SP>. Conductors 7 and 9 create a vertical magnetic field, graded at the ends, while the central conductors 8 serve to compensate for armature reaction. Modifications are described in which the current is injected at different places, various numbers of turns are connected in series or parallel, and the compensating conductors are omitted.
