Abstract

1,099,054. Making dynamo-electric machines; electromagnetic forming. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Nov. 30, 1965 [Nov. 30, 1964], No. 50843/65. Headings B3A and B3Q. In a method of effecting a desired placement of electrical conductor means carried by an accommodating member, the placement is effected by a surge of induced current flow in the conductor means, the current flow being induced by passing a surge of current through a coil in transformer relation with the conductor means. A coil accommodating member 21 carries a primary winding 23 which is fixed in relation to a stator core 20. The conductors 25 of the winding 23 define magnetic poles aligned radially with the pole axes 26-29 and simulate the magnetic poles defined by coil groups 30-33 of a winding 34. The winding 34 is short circuited by joining leads 35, 36. A power pulse source 41 produces a surge of current flow in the winding 23, thereby inducing a corresponding surge in the winding 34 and the electromagnetic forces act on the conductors of the latter to push them towards the bottoms of the slots 42. Simultaneously the coil end turn portions of the winding 34 are pushed back towards the end faces of the member 21. The windings of an armature (105) may be similarly compacted by placing it within a winding accommodating member (107), Fig. 13 (not shown). In alternative embodiments the windings may be extracted from the slots, by means of induced magnetic attraction.
