Abstract
801,685. Sparking plugs. LODGE PLUGS, Ltd. Jan. 12, 1956 [March 26, 1955], No. 8896/55. Class 7(4) The insulator 11, at that end thereof which is adjacent the firing tip of the central electrode 12 and is of reduced diameter to lie out of surface contact with the plug body, has axially projecting therefrom a small protrusion 15 of relatively narrow diameter the outer radial end face 16 of which lies flush with the end of the central electrode 12. The protrusion may be parallel throughout its length on the major part thereof but is preferably tapered. The earthed electrode may be tapered at its free end (Fig. 2). The end part 14 of the central electrode is preferably of platinum. The diameter of the end 14 of the central electrode may be in the region of 0.02 ins. while the external diameter of the annular end face 16 of the protrusion 15 is approximately 0.06 ins. The axial length of the protrusion may be 0.03 ins.
