Abstract

801,218. Coke oven doors. KOPPERS CO., Inc. Dec. 31, 1956 [Jan. 5, 1956], No. 39661/56. Class 55 (1). A coke oven door machine comprises a carriage 16, Fig. 1, running on rails 22, a frame 24 pivoted at 23, 29 to the carriage 16, and a support structure 32 rigid with the carriage 16, respectively, and a door carrier 20 which is so connected to the frame 24 that on retraction of the door 4 from its frame 8 the door 4 is raised. The frame 24 may subsequently be rotated through 90 degrees by hydromotor 34 so that the door seals may be cleaned. The door carrier 20 comprises two frames 38, 39 which are relatively slidable. The inner frame 39 supports a device 62 for latching and unlatching the latch bars 12 on the doors, has brackets 54, 56 which pivotally support hooks 57 for engagement with door hooks 61 under the action of a hydromotor 59 and linkage 60, and is provided with a pair of cam follower rollers 63. When a pair of hydraulic cylinders 73, fixed to the frame 24, are actuated, two pairs of bell cranks 68 are moved about their pivots 69, on frame 24, causing outer frame 38 to be retracted. The cam follower rollers 63 ride along cam track 37 on the frame 24, the slots 48 on frame 39 which pass the shafts 47 pivotally connecting bell cranks 68 to the frame 38, allowing the frame 39 to slide relatively to frame 38. A spring-loaded bumper 66 is provided on the lower face of frame 39. In a modification, Fig. 4, the lower pair of bell cranks 68 are provided but the upper pair are replaced by a single bell crank 68<SP>1</SP>. This is mounted centrally on a through shaft 69<SP>1</SP> which is mounted in bearings 70 fixed to the two vertical sides of frame 24. One end of bell crank 68<SP>1</SP> and one end of each of the lower pair of bell cranks 68 are connected by a straddle link assembly 71<SP>1</SP>, the other free end of each of the bell cranks 68<SP>1</SP>, 68 being connected to the door carrier 20 by means of links 80. The pair of hydraulic cylinders 73 rock the shaft 69<SP>1</SP> through a pair of spaced-apart links 75. At one end of shaft 69<SP>1</SP> a ratchet wheel 76 is provided which is engageable by a pawl member 77 pivotally mounted on the frame 24, and acted on by an hydraulic cylinder 78 and a spring 81. The cylinder 78 is hydraulically linked with cylinders 73, so that when the latter are actuated to rotate the bell cranks 68<SP>1</SP>, 68 clockwise for return of the door carrier, the pawl 77 will be urged out of engagement with ratchet wheel 76 to permit rotation of the shaft 69<SP>1</SP> and the bell cranks. In the event of power failure, the pawl 77 is urged into engagement with ratchet wheel 76 through the action of spring 81 to lock the bell cranks in position.
