Abstract

<PICT:0801144/III/1> Sewage sludge gas produced an robically in a closed digester 101 is pumped at 221 to the foot of a gas scrubber station 251 to which is introduced at 54 a liquid (which may be alkaline) which absorbs the carbon dioxide. Spent absorbent liquid is pumped along a pipe 37 to a regenerating station 46 equipped with heating coils 47. Carbon dioxide recovered from the liquid is passed along conduit 56 and discharged at 58 or passed to a storage tank 62 having a valved discharge conduit 63. Excess sewage sludge gas (still containing carbon dioxide) may be withdrawn at 211. The pump 181 may be downstream of station 251 and pump 43 may be downstream of station 46. Instead of being heated the liquid may be vacuum degasified to remove carbon dioxide.
