Abstract
801,022. Delivering measured quantities of powdered materials. GASKELL & CHAMBERS, Ltd., [trading as NON-DRIP MEASURE CO.]. June 19, 1957 [June 29, 1956], No. 20228/56. Class 106(5) Measured quantities of powdered or granular material are dispensed from a container 1 by a pocketed disc 5 rotatable step by step and an inclined baffle plate 9 bent over at 9a masks a pocket 6 when it is in discharge position over the container outlet 10. To ensure a free flow of air to a discharging pocket and to vent the air displaced from a pocket as it emerges from beneath the baffle plate to a charging position, pipes 14 and 11 are provided, the pipe 14 extending through the side of the container and the pipe 11 extending to the top of the container where it is provided with a number of radiallydirected holes 13. The disc 5 is detachably mounted on a spindle 7 which is journalled in a bush 17 carried by a bracket 15 on a support pillar 16 and the lower end of the spindle carries a ratchet wheel 18. A housing 20 is rotatable on the outside of the bush 17 and is formed with a handle 21 containing a spring-loaded sliding pawl. A spring 28 connected between the housing 20 and the bracket 15 returns the operated handle to its rest position and, during this movement, the ratchet wheel and spindle 7 are held stationary by a spring 24 acting on the wheel through a washer 25. The operating handle and a stop limiting its movement are preferably rubber covered to ensure quiet operation.
