Abstract

800,664. Glass working. RANK CINTEL, Ltd. Oct. 12, 1956 [Oct. 14, 1955], No. 29326/55. Class 56. A conical flare is formed on the end of a glass tube 2, e.g. for a cathode-ray tube, by rotating the tube, heating its end and urging the softened end against a stepped rectilinear block 3 having edges or surfaces tangential to the desired form of the flare. The Figures show two successive steps in the formation of the flare wherein differently-shaped carbon rods 5, 8 are used to work the glass. Specifications 750,245 [Group XXXIV] and 795,338 [Group XL(a)] are referred to.
