Abstract

890,239. Making gilled tubes. GREEN & SON Ltd., E. Sept. 28, 1960 [Sept. 28, 1959], No. 32907/59. Class 83 (2). A gilled tube 1 for a heat - exchanger comprises cast gills 2 of gradually increasing thickness in the direction from tip to root welded to its outer surface. The thickness may increase at a constant or an increasing rate, giving approximately parabolic surfaces. Cast iron gills in two or more sections (Fig. 3, not shown) may be sand-blasted or pickled before being resistance-welded to a steel tube.
