Abstract

Ammonium sulphate with a reduced or completely removed setting tendency is produced by incorporating therein a small quantity of a polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of at least 150. 0.01-0.05 Per cent of polyethylene glycol of molecular weight 500 is preferred. In examples: (1), (2), (NH4)2SO4 crystals are mixed with polyethylene glycol of mol. wt. 500 or powdered polyethylene glycol of mol. wt. 4000; (3) Hot (NH4)2SO4 crystals from the drier are mixed with molten polyethylene glycol of mol. wt. 4000; (4) (NH4)2 SO4 crystals are sprayed with polyethylene glycol of mol. wt. 500 while spread out on a conveyer; (5) moist (NH4)2SO4 crystals from the centrifuge are mixed with a concentrated aqueous polyethylene glycol solution, and then passed to a neutralizer and drier.
