Abstract

800,322. Protectors for footwear. JOHNSON, C. W., and BLAND, T. C. June 26, 1956 [July 5, 1955], No. 19442/55. Classes 17(2). and 17(3) A protector for attachment to the sole or heel of footwear comprises a sole or heel top-piece 11, Fig. 1, in one piece having a segment removed adjacent one edge 12 for the reception of a tip 14, Fig. 2, a tongue 15 of which is part circular in shape and carries a ridge 19 to engage in a peripheral groove 22 on the toppiece 11. In one modification, otherwise similar to that described above, the ridge 19 and groove 22 are omitted, while, in a further modification, the tongue is formed as two semi-circular projections side-byside which do not extend to the edges of the tip, and the recess on the top piece or sole corresponds. The protector may be in rubber or metal and may be formed by moulding or cutting the top piece or sole and tip by a circular cutter.
