Abstract

798,801. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. April 13, 1956 [April 26, 1955], No. 11392/56. Class 112 In a work-jogging attachment for a sewing machine comprising a laterallymovable work-jogging member, a workfeeding member arranged for movement longitudinally with respect to the workjogging member, a pattern cam arranged to shift the work-jogging member and to be turned by mechanism actuated by the sewing machine, a cam follower carried by the work-jogging member, and a member driven by the cam-actuating mechanism for shifting the work-feeding member, the pattern cam can be shifted into or out of operative engagement with the cam actuating mechanism and the cam follower simultaneously. The attachment comprises a frame 10 secured by a block 14 to the sewing machine presser bar 16. A lever 19, pivoted at 20 to the frame, is slotted at one end to engage a boss 21 on the needle bar 18, and at its other end has a lug 26 engaged between a pair of lugs 27 on a slidable pawl-carrier plate 28. A pawl 32, pivoted at 31 on plate 28, is spring- biased into engagement with a ratchet wheel 34 formed with a hub portion 36 journalled on an upstanding stud 35. A bar 45, carrying at one end a work-jogging foot 46 and at the other end a cam-follower roller 43, is formed with a longitudinal slot 47 engaged by a fulcrum pin 48 carried by a slidable plate 49 which is secured in adjusted position by means of a clamping screw 55. Longitudinal movement of bar 45 is prevented by a bar 58 pivoted at its respective ends at 51 and 59 to the frame and to bar 45. An exchangeable pattern cam 40 is formed in its under surface with a central bore 39 non-rotatably engagable with the hub 36, and with an annular cam slot 42 simultaneously engagable with the cam roller 43. A slidablefeed-bar 66, which is biased forwardly by a spring 77, is pivoted at its forward end at 65 to a plate 63 carrying a pair of feeding feet 62 disposed in slots 61 formed in the work-jogging foot 46. A stitch-length regulating plate 69 is slidably mounted on the rear end of bar 66 and is adjustablysecured to the latter by a clamping screw 80. A feed-advance lever 72, pivoted at 73 to the frame, is provided at one end with a lug 71 which abuts a lug 70 on plate 69, and at the other end with a lug 74 engaged between a pair of lugs 75 on the pawl-carrier plate 28. A bell crank lever pivoted at 13 on the frame has one arm 83 overlying the feeding foot-carrying plate 63, and the other arm 84 provided with a roller 85 which co-operates with a cam surface 86 on the lever 19. The arrangement is such that when the needleascends above the work, cam 86 rocks arm 83 to depress the feeding feet into engagement with the work, when the feed bar is being moved rearwardly, in its feeding stroke, by lever 72; and when the needle enters the work, arm 83 is freed from the feeding feet. Specification 774,268 is referred to.
