Abstract
798,585. Lined metal pipes; pipe couplings. COMPAGNIE DE PONT-A-MOUSSON. Jan. 18, 1957 [March 9, 1956], No. 1895/57. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). A pipe comprises an outer tubular metal body 1, Figs. 1 and 2, with a lining 2, e.g., of cement, bitumen, asphalt or synthetic resin, protected by turning over at least one end of the body 1 to form an inwardly curved flange 5 which is flush with the internal surface of the lining. Each pipe T<SP>1</SP> is formed with a socket 3 at one end in which engages the plain end of another pipe T<SP>2</SP>, the joint being sealed by a gasket 11 compressed by a flange 12 against a ledge 7 which protects the end of the lining 2. In a modification, Fig. 4, some of the lining material 15 is extended over the ledge 7 to seal the gap between the ledge 7 and the surface of the pipe engaging therein. Alternatively the end of the lining adjacent the ledge 7 is provided with a recess containing a hemp gasket, the joint being completed by a lead filling poured into the space between the end portion of the socket 3 and the pipe fitting therein. In a further modification both ends of the body 1 are turned over as at 5. The metal bodies 1, preferably of spheroidal graphite cast iron, may be covered with tar, paint or synthetic resin.
