Abstract

797,659. Crimping yams. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS, Ltd. March 4, 1955 [Dec. 4, 1953], No. 16676/57. Divided out of 786,420. Class 120(3) Multifilamentary "yarn", i.e. filaments, yarn, thread, cord, consisting at least mainly of a synthetic linear polymer, e.g. polyamides, polyureas, polyurethanes, polyesters, are crimped by passing the yarn continuously through a multiple pin tensioner to adjust the tension to from 5-10 grms., heating the yarn by passage over, and in contact with a hot metal plate, mechanically deforming the yarn by feeding it into a conventional type of falsetwisting device positioned near the plate, and giving to the yarn on leaving the false-twisting device a slipping overdrive of from ¢ to 5 per cent by passage over or round a polished roller in order to reduce the tension to from 5-10 grms. prior to the winding up of the yarn.
