Abstract
797,371. Pneumatic conveyers. SIMON HANDLING ENGINEERS, Ltd. July 17, 1956 [Aug. 15, 1955], No. 23401/55. Class 78 (1). In apparatus for transporting powdered material through a conduit h by air under slight pressure which has been used for fluidizing it, the porous tile base a, which supports the material and through which the air percolates from a chamber d, is composed of a series of tiles, each of which is readily removable and between each of which and the conveyer structure is a fluid-tight joint. Each tile a is formed with a peripheral recess b into which a soft rubber or like ring c is sprung. This ring rests on shoulders e formed on the chamber d and on transverse members g. The conduit h is provided with flanges k between which and flanges f on the chamber d is placed packing i which forms a fluid-tight joint when the flanges are bolted together. Moulded rubber packing o, Fig. 5, is placed between flanges m, n at the ends of adjacent sections of the conveyer. The edges of the tiles may be sealed by painting with a sealing compound, e.g. a rubber solution. In a modification, the recess b is omitted and the rubber packing ring is bonded to the lower face of the tile.
