Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0797236/IV (b)/1> and non-toxic addition salts thereof, wherein R, R1 and R2 are alkyl groups such as methyl, ethyl or propyl, and their preparation by reacting an amine YCH2CH2N(R1)R2 with a substituted benzoic ester X.C6H4COOR, the substituent X being in the meta position and X and Y being groups which react together to form an ether linkage. Suitably the compounds are made by reacting compounds in which X is the group -OH or -ONa and Y is a halogen such as chlorine in an alkaline medium, e.g. in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate. In examples: (1) and (2) meta-diethylaminoethoxy benzoic acid ethyl ester and its hydrochloride are made by reacting 1-chloro-2-diethylaminoethane with ethyl meta-hydroxybenzoate in the presence of sodium ethoxide.ALSO:Anaesthetics which are potentialized by adrenaline comprise m-dialkylaminoethoxybenzoic esters of the formula <FORM:0797236/VI/1> wherein R, R1 and R2 are alkyl groups, and their non-toxic acid addition salts such as the hydrochloride. The preferred compound is ethyl m-diethylaminoethoxybenzoate and its hydrochloride.
