Abstract

796,981. Land mines. ALSETEX SOC. ALSACIENNE D'ETUDES ET D'EXPLOITATION. July 4, 1956 [July 4, 1955], No. 20763/56. Class 9(2) [Also in Group XXXII] , An anti-tank mine is provided with a shock-absorber to prevent untimely operation of the igniter 6. The shock-absorber may be a block of rubber or plastic material which is deformable under prolonged pressure, but withstands sudden impacts and vibrations. The shock-absorber may be a dash-pot as in Fig. 3 consisting of an annular trough 11 containing an incompressible fluid into which extends a piston 12 depending from the mine lid 2. Ducts 13 are provided in the piston for the escape of the fluid, which may be a grease. The dash-pot may also be used to operate the igniter when pressure is applied to the lid 2 for a long enough period, by allowing the fluid displaced by the piston to escape into a cavity above the igniter. By varying the number and dimensions of the fluid ducts and the volume of the cavity, the minimum duration of pressure on the mine to actuate the igniter can be controlled. The cavity may be sealed from the igniter by a member adapted to rupture at a given pressure in the cavity, the member then being driven forward to actuate the igniter. A supple rubber disc 19, Fig. 5, may replace the dash-pots, air being compressed in the cavity 15 as pressure is applied to the lid 2. The shock absorber may be a liquid enclosed in a flexible sheath. Specification 779,937 is referred to.
