Abstract

796,932. Ultrasonic vibration of paper pulp. ZELLSTOFFVERFAHRENS AKT. - GES. Feb. 7, 1956 [Feb. 8, 1955], No. 3866/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 96. A suspension of fibres, e.g. bleached sulphate or sulphite paper pulp, e.g. at 0.1 or 0.82 per cent consistency respectively, which may have been treated mechanically, is subjected to ultrasonic vibrations, e.g. at 22 to 800 kc. per sec., e.g. for 4 hours or less, so that a marked increase in hydration, and in the strength of paper made therefrom, occurs. Physical, hydrodynamic, colloidal chemical, and/or chemical means reduce flocculation. The pulp, which is degassed externally and internally of the fibres, by the treatment, may be kept at 20‹ C. by cooling during the treatment, which may be followed by an additional mechanical beating.
