Abstract

796,730. Walls; floors; building blocks. MULTI-CONFLATS, Ltd. Jan. 27, 1956 [Feb. 3, 1955], No. 3186/55. Classes 20(4) and 87(1) Multi-storey buildings are reinforced at floor levels and roof level by horizontal beams which project inwardly of the wall. The front and rear walls 13, Fig. 1, are built-up from double-walled blocks 14 providing a cavity 17 and at roof, and each floor level, triple-walled blocks 26 are provided, the outer cavity 31 being aligned with cavity '17 and the inner cavity 30 being filled with concrete, cement or the like- 50, which may be reinforced, to form the. horizontal beam. Damp-prevention courses. 53 are provided at each floor level. At window openings the blocks 26 are replaced by outer lintels flush with the exterior of the wall and double-walled blocks of full lintel length built into the wall and filled. with concrete or the like. The cross walls i.e. the end walls 5, Fig. 3, and party walls, parallel thereto, are constructed as loadbearing walls and carry most of the roof and floor loads, the end walls 5 being builtup from triple-walled blocks 6, the inner cavity 10 being reinforced with concrete or cement 34 and the party walls being constructed from double-walled blocks filled with cement or concrete. The floors are: formed of pre-stressed concrete planks 44 laid side-by-side so as to extend from one, cross wall to another, the longitudinal edges having interengaging recesses 45 and projections 46, the planks being covered by a concrete or like screed 47, integral with. the fillings 50, 34, a structural screed 48, a glass quilt 49, and tiles 51. The wall blocks. may have strips 54 of nailable material to enable plaster-board sheets 55 to be secured thereto and the walls and ceilings may be plastered as at 56. In a modification beams. built-up from double-walled or triplewalled blocks are supported on pillars, built up in situ also from double-wall or triple-walled blocks. In a further form the end walls are built up from double-walled blocks with courses of triple - walled blocks at inter - storey levels, as in the front and rear walls, the cavity being filled with concrete. The external slab surfaces of the blocks in the external walls of the building are formed with quasi-hewn stone surfaces or with. terazzo finishes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 772;834.
