Abstract
796,302. Furnace walls. HORNE, R. F. (Laclede-Christy Co.). March 26, 1956, No. 9330/56. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). A furnace wall comprises stacks of identical tiles, each stack independently supported by a member engaging only the lowermost tile of the stack, and having a downwardly extending part engaging the top tile of the stack immediately below to prevent its outward displacement. Vertical stacks of identical interlocking tiles 20 are supported by hangers 24 slidably mounted on horizontal bars 30. One end of each bar 30 is bolted to a vertical H-section support 18, and the other end is secured to an adjacent H-section support 18 by a bolt passing through a slot in the bar 30 so as to allow for expansion. Each hanger 24 has a horizontal flange 28 supporting the lowest tiles 20 of two adjacent stacks, and a vertical T-section part with arms 26 engaging grooves 23 in the tiles. The outer part of the tiles is reduced in size, and a groove 21 on the top of each tile engages a rib 22 on the bottom of the tile above. The vertical spacing of the horizontal members 30 is such that there is a gap between the uppermost tile of one stack and the lowest tile of the next stack of less depth than the interlocking groove 22 in the top tile so that the tiles interlock while allowing for expansion. A downward extension of the arms 26 engage the tiles of the stack below that which the hanger 28 supports.
