Abstract

795,796. Liquid dispensing apparatus. LESNICK, M. L. Oct. 14, 1955, No. 29297/55. Class 106(5) A liquid dispenser comprises a measuring chamber 20, inlet and outlet ports 30, 40 each having sealing surfaces 33, 45 adapted to be engaged by valve members 31, 46, spring means 34, 48 to bias the valve members to the closed position, and a cam 62 to operate the valve members, there being a pair of co-operating bearing surfaces 42, one on the valve and one in the chamber 20, forming a hinge whereby action of the cam 62 causes pivotal movement of each of the valve members about its hinge. The cam 62 is mounted on a shaft 60 connected by spring-biased radial arms to a manually operable member 64, one of the radial arms having a cam slot to actuate a counter 12. Operation of the member 64 when the device is not in the dispensing position is prevented by a pivoted dog 70 which normally engages a surface 71, but swings clear of the latter when the device is tilted to the dispensing position. The valve members are provided with projections 50, 51 for engagement by the cam member 62 and the projection 50 also serves to close an air vent 74 when the inlet port 30 is open. Air passes into the container 17 to which the dispenser is secured through a hollow threaded rod 95. This rod carries a pair of laterally extending arms 97, 98 pivoted to a nut 96. The shaft 95 is rotated through a ratchet member 118 so that the dispenser cannot be removed from the bottle once it is installed, without breaking the bottle. A seal 104 of a soft plastic or rubber-like material is positioned between the dispenser and the end of the bottle whilst a ring member 105 prevents lateral displacement of the dispenser relative to the bottle. To increase the capacity of the measuring chamber 20, a cup member (not shown) of U-shape may be glued or otherwise affixed to the exterior chamber and connected thereto by ports. Alternatively plugs may be inserted into the chamber to reduce its volume. Specification 795,797 is referred to.
